Riding Profile
The London West federal riding begins at the western city limit with Dingman Creek, east along the creek to Southdale Road; east on Southdale to Wharncliffe Road; north to Commissioners Road; east to the CNR tracks; north on the railway to the south branch of the Thames River; west along the river to Wharncliffe Road; north to Oxford Street; west on Oxford to Wonderland Road; north to the northern limits of the city; then west and southeast along the city limits to Dingman Creek.
London West was created in 1966. In 1996 boundaries were redrawn to take in part of London East and London-Middlesex. There have been no changes since.
Statistics Canada (2005 and 2006) data describes London West this way: population of 118,335. The median age is 40 and 83% of the population is age 15 or older. There are 49,290 households in the riding and the median household income is $56,859. One-third of private residences are apartments and two-thirds are houses (row houses, detached houses, and semi-detached houses).
In the October 2008 election there were 91,711 electors registered in London West. Of these, 63% (57,908) voted making the riding one of the strongest voter turnout areas in southwest Ontario. Ed Holder, running on behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada, won the election with 39% of the votes (22,556 votes).
